Mary E. Walker

Mary Elizabeth Walker was a woman of deep faith, an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Harrisburg, PA., and a dedicated leader in early childhood education.

She was the Supervisor of Family Education Centers at the Community Action Commission and the Director of the Early Childhood program at the East Shore YMCA. Her passion for education extended beyond her professional work, as she created and facilitated the implementation of a program called “Safety Trained Assistance for Residential Support” (STARS). This program allowed members of the community to engage in training to help ensure the safety of their families, especially their children.

Mary’s legacy will continue through the Mary E. Walker Grant, by providing financial support to women pursuing a career in education. This grant is a testament to Mary’s dedication to education and community service, and we are proud to honor her memory in this way.

Hamm Camp is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of donors to support its mission. We encourage you to consider making a donation to help us create the Mary E. Walker Grant and provide support to young women pursuing a career in education.
